Petitions to Annul Criminal Records

A past charge or conviction does not have to define your future. New Hampshire law allows many individuals to petition the Court to annul their criminal record. We can assist you with preparing the documents needed to request an annulment.

Moving Forward with a Fresh Start

Our Philosophy

A past criminal charge or conviction can follow you for years, affecting employment opportunities, housing, professional licensing, and even your ability to travel. In certain circumstances, New Hampshire law allows an individual to ask the Court to annul a criminal record, a process sometimes called expungement in other states.

At Aprille Barker Freelance Paralegal, we provide document preparation and procedural assistance to individuals who wish to represent themselves in seeking an annulment of their New Hampshire criminal record. We cannot guarantee that the Court will grant your request, but we can make sure that when you ask the Court, your petition is complete, organized, and ready.

Our Annulment Services

Preparing a Petition to Annul is largely a matter of getting the details right: the correct Court, the correct case, the correct dates, and the correct forms. As an experienced paralegal, Aprille assists with the administrative and document-preparation side of the process, so nothing is missed.

    Supervising Attorney Review

Every petition is reviewed by a supervising attorney before it is finalized and returned to you for filing.
"Before any Petition to Annul is provided to you for filing, it will be reviewed by my supervising attorney. This additional review is intended to help ensure that the petition has been properly prepared based upon the information provided."
— Aprille Barker

Is Your Record Eligible for Annulment?

Whether a criminal record is eligible for annulment depends on a number of factors, including the nature of the offense, how the case was resolved, the sentence imposed, when the sentence was completed, and the waiting period that applies. Some records qualify sooner than others, and some do not qualify at all.

Please understand what we can and cannot do. Aprille is not an attorney. She cannot provide legal advice, determine your legal eligibility for annulment, interpret the law as it applies to your particular circumstances, or guarantee that the Court will grant your petition. The supervising attorney's review of your petition does not create that guarantee either. The decision to grant a Petition to Annul rests with the Court.

If your situation calls for additional legal analysis, involves a complicated criminal history, or raises legal questions beyond the scope of document preparation, we may advise you to consult directly with an attorney.

What to Have Ready

The more you can bring to your first meeting, the faster we can move. Helpful information includes:

  • Court name and location
  • Case number, if available
  • The criminal charge or charges
  • Date and manner in which the case was resolved
  • Date of the offense or arrest
  • Date of conviction, if applicable
  • Sentence imposed
  • Date all terms of the sentence were completed
Don't have everything? That's common. We can discuss which records may be needed and how to obtain them.

Document Preparation for Self-Represented Individuals

Our role is to serve as an educational and document-preparation resource for individuals representing themselves. We can explain the filing process, help gather the information the court forms require, and prepare documents based on the information and instructions you provide.

Our services are not a substitute for legal representation. Unless you separately retain an attorney, you remain a self-represented party responsible for filing your documents, meeting court requirements, and appearing at any hearing the Court may schedule.

Our Process

From first meeting to a petition ready for filing, here's how we work with you:
